In-Person Ketamine Sessions

In-person ketamine sessions at RetroTherapuetics consist of administration of ketamine in either sublingual, subcutaneous or intramuscular routes of administration. These are one-on-one sessions with the provider and consist of several steps to ensure the safety, comfort and therapeutic effect:

1. Preparation and Initial Assessment:
Before the session, clients typically undergo a comprehensive initial assessment with the medical provider to determine if ketamine therapy is appropriate and medically safe for them to participate.

2. Setting:
Sessions take place in the comfortable, cozy and safe RetroTherapeutics Airstream treatment space. The space is designed to promote relaxation and to minimize external distractions.

3. Dosage and Administration:
Client and medical provider work together to determine appropriate dosage of medicine which is then administered either sublingually, subcutaneously or intramuscularly depending on the needs of the client. The dose is carefully calculated based on the client’s weight and medical history.

4. Monitoring and Support:
Throughout the sessions, the client is closely monitored by the medical provider for vital signs, consciousness, and psychological state to ensure safety. The medical provider is present for the entire visit and is available to address any concerns or needs of the client that may arise.

5. Concurrent and/or Post-session Integration:
Some sessions may involve concurrent integrative practices or counseling to enhance the therapeutic benefits of the ketamine treatment. This can help individuals process their experiences and emotions during the session. After the effects of the ketamine wear off, there is typically a period of integration where the client may reflect on their experience with the guidance of the medical provider. Post-session care may involve follow-up appointments, mental health support, ongoing communications and personalized treatment planning.

6. Experience and Effects:
Ketamine’s effects typically begin within minutes of administration. The client may experience altered perceptions, changes in consciousness, and a dissociative state. These effects usually last for about an hour or so, depending on the dosage.

Virtual Ketamine Sessions

A virtual ketamine session typically involves the medical provider guiding a client through a therapeutic experience using ketamine as a tool to help address various mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and PTSD.

  1. Preparation: Like in person sessions, virtual sessions also involve a comprehensive initial assessment with the medical provider to ensure clients are appropriate candidates for virtual ketamine sessions and that there are no contraindicated medical conditions that would make sessions risky or unsafe to participate in.
  1. Medication Administration: The ketamine may be administered in various forms such as orally, nasal spray or lozenges. The medical provider will guide you on how to take the medication safely and effectively.
  1. Guided/Unguided Experiences: During the session, especially if clients are new to ketamine treatment, the provider may lead clients through mindfulness exercises, visualization techniques, or other therapeutic interventions to help clients to explore their thoughts and emotions in a safe and supportive environment. Once clients are familiar with ketamine experiences, they may be able to participate in unguided medicine sessions.
  1. Integration: After the ketamine experience, the provider helps clients to process and integrate any insights or revelations that may have arisen during the session.
  1. Follow Up Sessions: Follow up sessions may be recommended to monitor progress, adjust treatment plans if needed, and to provide ongoing support.

Partnership with Psychotherapists and other Healthcare Professionals utilizing Ketamine in their Practices

If you are a provider or healthcare professional who utilizes ketamine-assisted-psychotherapy (KAP) with your clients, Retro Therapeutics’ clinicians can perform initial medical screening exams for your clients, and order ketamine from a compounding pharmacy to be delivered directly to your clients for them to bring to their KAP sessions.

Retro Therapeutics also accepts referral clients for ketamine preparation, administration and integration and then can transition clients back to your care.
